HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN AWAITING SURGERY

214 children have been given a new lease of life after been given free heart surgeries by the Sai Prema Foundation, at a cost of 7 million dollars over the last 6 years.

The Health of a Child is the true wealth of a nation. Currently there is a high burden of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in children of Fiji and other South Pacific Island Nations for which currently there are no pediatric cardiac services available.

Approximately 200 children in Fiji and 2,500 in the Pacific Island nations are born with CHD annually! The sad fact is that MANY children are unable to survive as there are no services available in Fiji and families cannot afford overseas treatment. The average cost of overseas treatment for families in Fiji and the Pacific for CHD surgery is approximately $100,000.

287 children were diagnosed with heart disease by the Sai Prema Foundation team from recent outreach screenings conducted over two weeks in Levuka, Taveuni, Labasa, Savusavu and Nabouwalu. These are really shocking statistics and it proves that the problem of heart disease in rural Fiji is extremely high. Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital is focussed on ensuring that they can do as many surgical missions in a year so that more children can get a new Gift of Life

‘Gift of Life’ is a successful project providing free heart surgeries to the underprivileged and needy children of Fiji by visiting specialist pediatric cardiac teams.

FijiLIFE Foundation is proud to support the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital by helping to fund an Australian Surgical Mission in late 2024 to conduct “Gift of Life” Free Heart Surgeries for some 30 children from Fiji and the Pacific.

The Children’s Heart Hospital is an answer to prayers of thousands of families who cannot afford treatment overseas nor have the option of accessing local treatment due to its sheer unavailability.

A NEW EXCLUSIVE CHILDREN’S HEART HOSPITAL IN FIJI

It is in fact a matter of great pride that Fiji is the first nation in the Pacific and Oceania region to have a Pediatric Cardiac Super-Speciality Hospital treating children with CHD – Congenital Heart Disease.

All surgeries and treatments are performed absolutely free of cost. Yes, you read it right – the Hospital does not and will not ever have a billing counter!

The vision of this children’s free heart hospital is to become the most important Pediatric Cardiac Centre for Fiji and the Pacific Island nations.

Despite the charitable nature of the project, this hospital is a world-class facility with the aim of providing the best possible surgery and treatment to the children of Fiji and the Pacific. The Hospital houses state-of-the-art equipment for its Catheterisation Lab, Operating Theatre, Intensive Care Unit, Preoperative and Postoperative Wards. The Hospital also includes a Training Centre with technological capabilities for International Video Conferencing.

Immediately following the official inauguration, Pediatric Cardiac super-specialists from India, Singapore, America, and Australian began operating on Fiji’s children.

Through this ‘Gift of Life’ project, 214 children have received successful life-saving heart surgeries saving their families in excess of $7 million.
