Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji) was registered in compliance with the Charitable Trust Act (Cap, 67) of Fiji, in November, 2009. FENC Fiji’s purpose is to promote and assist the education of the children of the poorest of the poor in Fiji. It believes that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty many poor, and more particularly the poorest of the poor, get trapped into.

Since its inception in November 2009, the Foundation has been able to assist around 18,000 poorest of the poor children in the various of divisions of Fiji. During 2021 FENC Fiji assisted more than 6,400 children of the poor throughout Fiji, including in the remote areas, with school supplies.

The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji is at its highest level of assisting the poorest of the poor children in Fiji. They are in particular stress since the COVID crisis where the numbers seeking assistance are growing by the day. It is heartbreaking to witness mothers particularly, lining up in huge queues each school year in inclement weather outside FENC Offices, seeking assistance.

The pandemic COVID-19, followed by the natural disasters, has contributed more strength to the Foundation’s main enemy — poverty. The battle for alleviating poverty has become more difficult than it has ever been brought on by the experience over the past years.

FENC Fiji still believes that education is a way out of poverty, which simply means that education is a proposed solution to a better generation of generations to come. FENC believes that education leads to a better job and most of all a better Fiji.

Just last year, FENC has successfully assisted 6,500 children to attend school with BAGS, BOOKS & STATIONERIES, also a few children were assisted with uniforms, monograms, and shoes.

FijiLIFE Foundation ‘Educate Children of the Poor’ project will raise $12,500 for 100 children from disadvantaged families to attend school.

The Team in Partnership with Bank of South Pacific carried out its TC Ana Emergency Distribution in February 2021 to the villages of Muana, Nakaulevu Nakelo and Naqeledamu in the Central Division distributing Stationary Packages.

In 2021, FENC has doubled the assistance sponsoring 6,536 children with the same accessories mentioned above.

The following division breakdown is listed below:
1. Central – 3,119
2. Northern – 2,021
3. Western – 1,046
4. Eastern – 350
Total – 6,536 Children

Despite all we have been come through, FENC still strives to assist the families in Fiji who need education assistance during this hard time: Families who have lost everything in the cyclone, families whose breadwinner have become jobless, and families whose children have decided to leave school due to the current situation.

FENC Fiji National Coordinator Miss Priya Preetika Lata acknowledged all donors who contributed to the organization in cash and in kind.

“All donations made are a source of hope to the poorest of the poor children in Fiji,” she said. “FENC is able to assist the children through the help of all donors’ sponsorships and for that the organization is so grateful.”

FENC’s mission as an organisation is to educate those children who have extreme financial difficulty of even stepping into the hallways of a school, lacking not just the money to go to an educational institute but also lacking the support they to require as individuals.

FENC Fiji wants your help for the poorest of the poor families out there in Fiji that need education support. Due to a lack of funds they are unable to reach them all. So, please donate to this FijiLIFE Foundation ‘Educate Children of the Poor’ project that seeks to provide education support to 50 poor Fiji families to enable their children to attend school.

With the help of donations that they receive from the FijiLIFE Foundation ‘Educate Children of the Poor’ project, FENC Fiji can start to equip these children with basic supplies, books, stationery, uniforms, school bags and special needs.

FENC Staff

FENC Fiji’s National Coordinator Miss Priya Lata, believes through education, the poor and needy are able to free themselves from the clutches of poverty and are able to stand up, look after their families, and contribute back to their society. As well as we simply love to see the weak and poor becoming independent with their heads held high and dignity fully restored. Say no to child labour. Our children should be sent to school for education. They are our future leaders of this beloved nation.
